At The Gala-Twilight Sparkle by SeptilSix At The Gala-Twilight Sparkle by SeptilSix
It looks MUCH MUCH better in person, my scanner tends to ruin smaller pictures...

But anyways, this is my submission for the contest held by: :iconhand-drawn-mlp: with the theme of "Favorite Scene From Season 1". So here's one of mine. It was very hard to decide, there were so many good episodes (winter wrap up, running of the leaves, dragonshy, sonic rainboom, etc...)! But I've always wanted to draw a Gala outfit, so I stuck with the last episode.

This will actually include the whole Mane 6 in it, but I didn't have time to finish up the others. Expect the full picture within a week or so.

I've also been experimenting with making line-art differently. This is a bad example of it, but I'm trying to use a mechanical pencil to make dark and tapered lines, similar to vectors I guess. I'll be playing around with it more in the future. But I think it looks a lot cleaner than using charcoal or a black colored pencil for the outlines.

Anyways, critique is welcome. Thanks for checking it out!

Colored pencil (with solvents) and graphite on some random drawing paper I found :3

Very good job here! The dress and outfit is very show-accurate, and the lines are very clean. The outline of the eye is very clear, but the eyelashes could be thinner at the tips.

The coloring is very smooth, and I can't see any white spots where there shouldn't be. Some spots of the dress appear darker than others, but then again, getting a cover as clean as yours isn't easy! Some of the stars on Twilight's saddle could use some *minor* improvements, but I must say that you've done an extremely good job, and your coloring skills are terrific!

For originality, you could have added a more complex background, and maybe drawn her in a more interesting pose, because this one is fairly common. Why not try drawing her drinking something, or dancing? I know she didn't really do either of those in the episode, but then again, use your imagination when drawing! There is no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to art.

Overall, you have done a brilliant job with this piece, I love it! Keep up the good work, and remember, use your imagination!

Well, the drawing is very good and the colouring isn't so bad, but I've got the feeling that your previous works are better. They have some kind of smoother colouring (and the lines weren't so visible, like here: [link]) and more shadows. I know the show style doesn't include all those shadows, but still...

But anyway, the drawing isn't so bad, as I said before, without those elements.

I'd have to agree with you on that now that you mention it. I like the way the more "realistic" pictures I've drawn look, but it's very hard to draw in that style when the subject is so small. On that AJ drawing the entire 9x12 page was filled with her face, which gave a lot more room for detail. But in this picture Twilight is only 3 1/2 inches tall, which is slightly harder to work with. I think I may start drawing on larger paper, that way I can cram more detail in while still having the realistic style...

Anyways, thanks for the feedback! :D

Actually, the longer I look at it, the better it gets! Huh, that's strange. And now it's something I would rate as "wow, it looks great, I like it!" :).

Well that's good too! I'm still just experimenting with different methods to see what I like doing the most though, so this isn't necessarily the style I'm going to settle with. Art's all about trial and error after all! :D

Nice job, very clean and evenly shaded...I can't help seeing a pool of blood instead of a carpet though.
